Party Politics: Session 40: 1st Question Period
Wednesday 10:30 Question Period on CP24 news:
Welcome to the hot seat!
PC Hudak politely greets Kathleen, her partner Jane + family. Nice. Then he's back into his angry, indignant guy routine outraged that the rights of unidentified "tax payer" + "business leaders" were not respected in the Throne Speech. He exclaims he will be Ontarios only alternative to the OLP + NDP. He keeps repeating his "McGuinty" and "bold speak" branding mantra. He wants to know if an "across the board" public wage freeze will be put into effect or not?
Premier Wynne replies there are other fiscally responsible ways to make savings and rules the cuts out. She is firm but still a Premier rookie. As the PC's increasingly try to shout her down she keeps raising her voice to be heard. We don't do that at school because we know it doesn't work. She sticks to her speaking points but will need to figure this one out. Think of Tim as a pit bull which smells blood. He can taste it now.
It's all in the hand movements. Plus being respectful but firm. Tim needs to take notes!
NDP Horwath politely greets + congratulates the new Premier. Nice but very business like. She's down to brass tasks asking what will specifically be done to meet the NDP's desire to close tax loopholes, help seniors, families etc. No shouting or histrionics. She totally gets it. She provides a nice balance shifting the question period away from Hudak's outraged neo con routine to present the NDP as a much more left of centre alternative to Wynne's OLP. Wynne still hasn't worked this out using her Liberal "3 Cs": Consultation, Co-operation, Compromise, since yesterday. Horwath has made her point. The NDP is there watching her very carefully. Point made. You know what she wants. A class act.

Commentary:
The legislature is back in every day session, + what an exciting one it promises to be! All 3 party leaders have staked out their opening positions + approach. The political persona seem clearly defined. Kathleen + Andrea are prepared to play tough but be nice out about in an respectful parliamentary fashion. They will talk. Shout Tim! Shout! Great to see him shoot himself in the foot with his mad man histrionics. To paraphrase Pepys "the contrast is the thing". He just doesn't seem to get it. Good.
The Throne: All ready for the big day! Ooops! This must be in Ottawa! Probably a Harper renovation ...
