MOU Count: OECTA Election Voting Results!

Kindly note my blogsite coverage of the OECTA AGM 2013 will be updated this week. Please stay tuned and check back! There are lots + lots of photos. Thanks 4 reading. Regular all affiliate new link updates will resume as well, on holiday hours.

Congratulations to Warren Grafton who has been acclaimed our OECTA 2nd President. Also to Chris Karuhanga who was elected our treasurer this morning, as were Councillors Andrew Donilee and Elaine McMahone.

Here are the Provincial Executive Election Results as per how the new officers voted on the OECTA MOU:

Against: 3

James Ryan [President]
Chris Karahunga [Treasurer]
Marcie Tombari [3rd VP]

For: 3

Ann Hawkins [1st VP]
Warren Grafter [1st VP]
Kevin O'Dwyer [Past President]

Councillor: 1 Against/ I for

Against

Elaine McMahon [Against]

For:

Andrew Donihee [For]

Summary: 4 for MOU 4 against. The 4 listed in support of the MOU still believe it was the right decision. We still have a formidable job ahead in uniting the deep division with in OECTA. It is good to know we have James Ryan at the helm. If we have any chance of surmounting our differences internally or with the other labour unions + teacher affiliates, I firmly believe he will be the leader we need to get it done.

It seems quite apparently that OECTA remains quite sharply split of the MOU. Perhaps that will result in a divided provincial executive. One hopes with the new ratification procedures in place a lot of those concerns can be moved off the table to avoid a virtual civil war of sorts. If the old loyalties remain in place, even if it is just below the surface, it would seem to be a perhaps insurmountable task. I noticed James approach, as highlighted in the question period, was not to personalize the debate or call into question Kevin's commitment and other considerable gifts which has used to help our membership. Let's hope everybody can rise to the occasion to put the worst from July 5th to now behind us and move on.

I would also like to note, that although I did not vote for nor support the pro MOU faction I too respect their commitment and the many long years of dedicated service they have provided for us. I perfectly understand you are not fond of me or this blog. However, union service is a long, demanding vocation for which there often is very little thanks. Thanks to all of you!

Board of Governors: All Acclaimed

Against: 3

Reno Lelatto
Julie Pauletig
Micheal Wozniak

For: 2

Chris Cowley
Richard Schrader

OTF Table Officer: Acclaimed

Julie Pauliteg [Against]

Note: as per the OTF rules, the OECTA Table officer will become the next OTF President!
Julie is very level headed and knowledgeable in politics, governance and the workings of the
pension board. I trust she will not feel pressured to make concessions even if it appears that a gun is being held to the OTF Governors' head, as with the MOU. Julie seems to perfectly understand that the situation is a lot more complicated than that, and that the teachers hold a lot of good cards in their hands when everybody meets at the negotiation poker table. Also I doubt OSSTF or ETFO won't be holding a lot harder line than any of the three affiliates have before in years past, after all they have been through with the MOU. Governor Reno Melatti is nobodies fool, so he can be an invaluable allie, along with hopefully all the rest of our OECTA Governors.
With a full group of acclaimed governors I should think we will have a very experienced and stable team.

Congratulations to the next OTF President Julie Pauliteg!

Hi David. Great news about the elections. As a former member, I still pay close attention to the happenings of my former union. It is great to see James back at the helm. A true progressive now captains the OECTA ship. Thanks for the work you do with your blog. Information is currency and knowledge is power. Your work has shed light on a secretive and dismissive provincial executive who were far to close to the governing party for the good of the membership. Your efforts with this blog helped influence the decisions of many members who choose in the end to rid themselves of the liberal red menace that was the O'Dwyer regime. Here's hoping OECTA gets back to its true progressive roots and supports the NDP.

David I hope you will keep this blog going now that O'Dwyer is off the throne. Here is something for the blog. I think you need a new section to track the efforts of teachers unions in the "aftermath" of the most recent union AGMs. Your voice cuts through the wall of silence and frees the animals on manor farm! Here is something:http://www.socialistproject.ca/bullet/781.php
Have a great day!

I have every intention to keep my blog going strong. I agree, and would even add that the real work begins now, especially at OECTA!

Congrats to Julie! I was disappointed to see Sonia not win. Any ideas on what happened there?
