My OECTA TSU Election Announcement!

My all affiliate news link digest and the OSSTF vote blogs continue below this one ....

The first election nomination lists should be appearing this Monday. You will not see my name there this week or in the ones to follow. I will not be seeking re-election to the OECTA TSU executive. It has been my honour + pleasure to serve you on executive for the past 5 years. I will now be focusing my attentions elsewise.

My blog will continue. I am quite pleased how it has morphed over the last year to an independent all affiliate teacher + union news site. I want to continue further with my writing + journalism pursuits, especially with the social media and this blog. I am also open to other opportunities if I become aware of them and they are in communications.

I believe I am best able to provide service for our Ontario teachers with my writing + protest activities rather than in political office. Possibly I can have a more constructive and positive influence outside of my immediate OECTA circle too. As always,my goal  will be to always provide you with as much info as possible, from a wide variety of views, so  that you can decide for yourself as teacher professionals about the education and provincial political issues of the day. I don't like when others take it upon themselves to do so for us. I think this has become especially important with the good fight we continue to face, any deals notwithstanding, to save our democratic + collective bargaining rights in Ontario.

I have differed with your TSU executive on a number of political issues this past year or so. Please know I am leaving you in good hands. You have a strong team of release and executive officers. I regret I have had some strong words with them at times. The OECTA MOU has proven to be very divisive. I question everything + write independently on my blog. This is just the way I am. I leave with no bad feelings or anger. Matter of fact I am even quite fond of them all though you might often not guess it. Indeed I respect them all for their many skills and great dedication they have in serving you our members.

I am honoured to have been a part of the group that implemented our jointly developed platform for change, and has been sticking faithfully to it for the past 4 years. OECTA TSU is now more firmly based upon a modern professional teacher management model which will serve our members well in the years ahead. It is now very pro-active as well, the Joint Committees with our school board providing a strong case in point. TSU has also built capacity. I look forward to still helping in any way I can if they so see fit.

I've decided its a good time now for me to move on to My Life Part 3, as I like to call it. I will have further announcements coming soon should you be interested. Some of you probably all ready know or can guess. I know you should have no problem in finding another suitable candidate to replace me.

In solidarity!

David Chiarelli

UPDATE: As of the May 1st cut off date for nominations, all positions on executive have been acclaimed except for the First VP position. The candidates are incumbant David Szollosy + well known local TSU union figure Frank Bruno.

Hi David. I respect your decision to divorce yourself from that Liberal infested corrupt union called OECTA. Your independent voice is needed now more than ever. Down with the Liberals!!!

We will miss you!But I know the feeling of true change for OECTA only coming from new everyday members removed from present leadership. New growth is needed!
