Sorry folks! I am running late this afternoon. A summary of the ETFO OLRB proceedings will follow, so stay tuned. Basically, both sides made their opening submissions, and Chair Fishbein announced no decision will be forthcoming today.
Time flies ...
As for my "what to expect" blog from earlier today? Never be too certain about anything these days. The Globe reports a purported leak saying new teachers with less than 10 years experience will get a 25% return, up from 10% on their accumulated sick days. It will be paid for through other savings. Hmm. Well don't forget 10% didn't necessarily mean 10% no more than I would assume 25% means 25%.The actual cash amount is based upon a complicated formula.
It seems a memo was sent to the school boards over the weekend from the MOE saying it wouldn't be an increased expenditure. Sloppy! What were they thinking? OSSTF has been exemplary. The MOE has leaked stories before. One is reminded of Broten's announcement of the OECTA MOU before the PE had approved it. Now that was really bad. Really tho, nothing can be secret for long anymore in the information age.
The PC's are furious accusing the government of reopening contracts and spending more money. However the MOE is sticking to it's claim that the new deal will be cost neutral. The whole story becomes increasingly confusing. Here's the news leak: He said she said
More to follow, once I catch up with myself ....
