My May Teacher New Link Digest continues below.
A primer 4 a tale of woe ...
Finally! The May 8 MOE Deputy Ministry B9 Memo on the implementation of the OSSTF MOU is available @ here! Now OSSTF will better know how to proceed on a number of the MOU terms they have ratified in their agreement @ here! Meanwhile OECTA needs to also ask both MOE permission for and clarification on how to proceed with any enhancements from the OSSTF MOU it might wish to invoke using the "Me Too" clause. The MOE has been anything but forthcoming, and without their approval nothing is for certain.
Remember, both the OECTA + OSSTF MOU's are memos of intent, not clearly spelled out contracts like we use to have in the past. They are very open to interpretation. That means an army of lawyers from all sides, union, government and the school boards have been scrutinizing the details in both the MOU's at great depth all ready, while they await the Ministry Memos on how to proceed. It will be very choppy and murky waters especially with OECTA Provincial. The scuttlebutt is that some angry words were exchanged with the Premier about our so called deal last summer, now that the OSSTF MOU has been approved and OECTA is left out in limbo.
Too hot to handle?!?
Do you know why it's dangerous to make a deal with the devil? Half way across he might very well throw you over the bridge between here and there or wherever you thought you were going. Tut! Tut! OECTA Provincial!
See my recent blogs for a comparison chart and analysis of he OECTA + OSSTF MOU's @ here and here. As I mentioned, you can use these materials to guess which OSSTF MOU enhancement terms OECTA will ask the MOE for + which it might both be able and not able to get. For now, OECTA members should not assume anything. The local units should be getting some more info as soon as it is known or at least be letting the members know about the current situation + concerns asap.
Be careful!
Meanwhile you might focus on studying these OSSTF MOU enhancements if you are an OECTA member: Maternity Benefits/ Voluntary unpaid days + offsetting measures/ [ERIP] Early Retirement Incentive Plan [especially don't gamble on this one!]/ Sick Leave+ short term sick leave disability plan/ and the Reconciliation Committee + Implementation work group.
If you are not an OECTA member, yes you have every reason to be royally P.O'ed!

What makes you guys think that OECTA deserves any compensation/enhancement from OSSTF's deal? To think that you deserve any more than what you bargained for without doing the work/taking the risks (strike, target of public hatred etc), is pathetic and reaffirms your union leadership's selfish move. Can you really sleep at night thinking of receiving the same deal while stabbing solidarity in its back?
Kindly know I did not nor do I support the OECTA MOU, process, or the cynical attempt to cash in on the Me too clause. Read back through my blogs since July 5th if you have any doubts.
Solidarity!
Our leadership in collusion with the Liberal government has really created total chaos out there with the MOU last July 5. Our apologies to other teacher unions but Catholic teachers had no vote or no say in the MOU. Many of us would like the authors of the MOU and the MOU itself to disappear from existence but it is beyond our control.
