Many thanks to everybody for reading, sharing and participating in this site, by guest blogs, comments, what have you. It's all good! I understand 500,000 reader visits are monumental so I am happy to share this with you today. I'm glad if the site is interesting and has been of some help.
I started this blog in spring 2011 for my union executive election campaign. It worked well. Afterwards I used it to continue to communicate with the members who had elected me. This did not go over so well with my fellow executive members. Especially after the MOU! It seems folks either loved what I was doing or absolutely hated it. Would spit if somebody so much as mentioned my name. Ha.
Afterwards my site picked up a lot of readers from all the different teacher affiliates here in Ontario, and from other unionists and progressives elsewhere too across Canada, the US, and abroad. As a result my union and political demographic changed quite dramatically and the themes have widened in scope.
My guiding principle has been to maintain the sites integrity. I speak the truth here, as I see it, and allow free speech from a wide variety of points of views. Hopefully we can dig deeper, and you can decide for yourself what you think. That's not for me to do, nor quite frankly nor should anybody else be doing it for you either. We are teacher professionals and people who can and should be able to think for ourselves, thank you very much. As you know this is often [usually?] not easy. Communications becomes one way, top down. We are told what to think, do, and say.Thank God for the internet and social media for creating new possibilities.
I am retired now, and still quite enjoy my blogger activity. Besides the teacher, union, education, political and social justice themes, there have been travel blogs since the earliest days. There have been a lot of music reviews, my passion. Canadiana. Culture too. Then there are the other topics that arise now and then catching my interest.
As you might or might not have noted, my blog site has been going through an overhaul. The screen has gotten a bit scrambled. The "Comments" bar was down for a bit. Anyway, that is getting straightened out. Half a million reads seemed like a good time for a freshening up. Of course my site has its own visual brand of sorts, which will continue too.
I'm looking into getting some drop screens added, also pages for different topics, and so on. These will become self evident with time. Currently I am perusing my site statistics trying to better tailor my site to your demographs, interests, locations and so on.
You will note my "Blog Archives" is now moved to the upper left hand column for easier access to the 500 plus posts there. They include a lot of news links and views, music reviews, travel blogs and so on. The Archive can be a quite useful research tool, especially for our teacher/ union readers. To paraphrase Thucydides from 500 BC:Those who forget their history are doomed to repeat it. Don't let that be you!
Anyway, all is well, and here's to hopefully another 500,000 reader visits to come!
Cheers!/
Solidarity!
David C
PS: my blog is now more mobile friendly too for those of you who follow by cellphone etc.
