ETFO hunkers down behind closed doors ....
The ETFO Tentative Agreement has been leaked online! Nope! Not by Me! ETFO seems to be running a fair, accountable, member based CB ratification process. We look very forward to seeing the agreement later on, through a link here on my Teacher Free Speech Site. Meanwhile, ETFO reminds it's members that you have until Thursday to vote, and that includes your OT's too!
IMHO, it would be interesting and maybe very worthwhile that, if in exercising their free, open and democratic rights, ETFO members decide to "Vote No". Poor Liz and company! They couldn't blame "big, bad union boss" intransigence for their teacher and school woes, while negotiating a "fair deal" in "good faith"!

True, your team would need to return to the negotiating table on your behalf. But, that's a part of the CB process, not an attack against them, their efforts, or their integrity. Far from it! Your teacher union should be working FOR YOU, not the other way around, as so often seems to be the case with some of the other affiliates these days!
Is this a fair, acceptable deal for you, as a responsible, hard working teacher union member? Well, you will know what's best as you read, consider and discuss the tentative agreement. However you vote, best wishes to everyone at ETFO for showing how this can be better done through a seemingly more democratic, professional teacher union that hasn't lost touch with it's grass roots! As we teachers like to say; Keep up the good work!

It's really disappointing that one local president, who used to be provincial president but lost an election to Sam Hammond, has been nursing a grudge for years and has now decided to use his members as cannon fodder in his ongoing personal vendetta against Sam. That is not democracy. It's a perversion of democracy to serve an individual's underlying purpose.
Let's remember that this is the former president who lost ETFO members 2% salary during the 2008 round and advocated ratifying that crap agreement (I guess because it was negotiated under his leadership). The salary penalty cost ETFO members more than 200 million dollars!!. But I guess that's all in the past now for him.
Now we have an agreement that contains no strips and some modest improvements over the mediocre deal negotiated by OSSTF, and this local president is saying it's a disaster. Really??? People, including you, David C, need to look a little deeper and uncover the truth of what's really happening here.
Plus, the real story is the government cleverly using each union against each other to ensure a mediocre deal for all. Last time, the weak link was OECTA. This time it was OSSTF. Maybe next time it will be ETFO. But until we fix this problem and the unions get together and stop underbidding each other, it is going to continue to happen. This vote is a distraction for ETFO members. All OSSTF, OECTA, ETFO and AEFO members should be holding their leaders' feet to the fire and asking why they cannot work together, and kicking them out if they don't sign a written pact before the year is out that they will work together during the next round of bargaining. Otherwise, turf them all out on their asses.
Well said!! But will that happen? Those elite union leaders don't want to upset their gravy train. Those at AMPA want the cushy $150000+ jobs.
Gains? What Gains? New negotiations should not have started until our Charter challenge was looked at. When we didn't put on the table what we lost (gratuity, sick days etc) we failed and Sam has his fingerprints all over that. Did we gain anything back that we lost in 2012? We know that the answer is no. I pine for the 1990's when everyone was militant and we fought for things. The flock of sheep I work with now saddens me with their apathy and indifference about their future. I will be happy to leave this eroding profession soon.

Good balance of power for collective bargaining for teachers if you are referring to the 19th century!
David Clegg needs to GO AWAY. He is hurting ETFO and is therefore hurting every teacher in Ontario. York ETFO members need to give their head a shake and stop electing someone who is only in this for himself.
